Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students (University Recommendation, Embassy Recommendation, Domestic Recruitment)
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship students are international students receiving MEXT Scholarships to study in Japan. We accept MEXT Scholarship students through the “Embassy Recommendation” and “University Recommendation” systems.
Please note: There are currently no openings for domestic employment.

Embassy Recommendation
To apply for the MEXT Scholarship through the Embassy Recommendation System, you must submit an application to the Japanese Embassy (or Consulate-General) in your country. Selection would be based on a document review, written examination, and interview. Please contact the Japanese embassy (or consulate-general) in your country for the selection schedule and application procedures for the desired year of application.

How to Receive a “Letter of Acceptance”
(Only for those who pass the first screening of the Embassy Recommendation)
If you wish to receive a Letter of Acceptance from our University, please send an e-mail to the address below, indicate the name and affiliation of your desired Academic Advisor, and attach the following required documents:

Required Documents:
- PDF file of the First Screening Passing Certificate issued by the overseas Japanese Embassy or Consulate
- A copy of all documents to be submitted to the overseas Japanese Embassy or Consulate (Please refer to the MEXT Scholarship application guidelines for details)
- Letter of Request for Acceptance from the Applicant, addressed to our University President

University Recommendation
To apply for MEXT Scholarship through the University Recommendation System, students must have participated in a short-term program, or have engaged in exchanges through an inter-university exchange agreement, etc. with a Faculty Member of Ryukoku University. The student must be recommended by a Faculty Member of Ryukoku University and, with their guidance, complete the university application process.
Therefore, all matters related to university recommendations, such as application requirements and internal application deadlines, etc., will be communicated individually by a Faculty Member directly to the applicant. After the application documents are submitted, candidates will undergo a screening process within the university. The university will then notify the candidates of the official MEXT application results. We accept Applicants under the “General Bracket” of the MEXT scholarship.
Application documents must be submitted through your provisional Academic Advisor.Please note that the University will not accept applications submitted without a Faculty Advisor.

MEXT Scholarship Monthly Scholarship Amount (*)
International Research Student (Non-Degree Student): 143,000 yen
International Graduate School Student (Master's Course): 144,000 yen
International Graduate School Student (Doctoral Course): 145,000 yen
