Welcome to the website of the Ryukoku Center for the Promotion of Global Education!

Ryukoku University, founded in 1639 as a Buddhist seminary in the precincts of Nishi-Hongwanji Temple, is one of the oldest and leading institutions of higher education in Japan. Today, with nearly 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students at three campuses (Omiya, Fukakusa, and Seta), Ryukoku University conducts all its education and research activities based on the five pillars of the Buddhist founding philosophy; Equality, Independence, Self-reflection, Gratitude, and Peace.

The Center for the Promotion of Global Education was established in the 1980s to promote the development of Ryukoku Universityfs international programs. It administers short and long-term student exchange programs with more than 50 different universities in North America, Europe, the Pacific, Asia and Africa. The Center also manages the Japanese Culture and Language Program (JCLP), a one-year intensive course for international students who are interested in the Japanese language, culture, and society. In addition to its role to administer the academic programs, the Center for the Promotion of Global Education also assists incoming students from abroad, by arranging subsidized housing and providing information on available scholarships and events, as well as Japanese students wishing to study abroad, by offering various services and guidance.

We continue to look forward to maintaining our strong connections and networks through established agreements with partner institutions as well as establishing new connections in a variety of locations and in various manners of arrangements.
Our vision is to broaden our spectrum of undergraduate/graduate education and research. This will in turn realize Ryukoku Universityfs goal of becoming a gGlocal (Global and Local) University seeking Symbiosis Harmony.h
